During WIVAM 2026, it is possible to participate in different kinds of workshops.
You can actively participate in one of four hands-on workshops, or take part in all four of them.
These are the most frequently performed operations in vascular surgery. The workshop is performed on specially designed anatomical phantoms, almost identical to those used in the European Vascular Surgery Exams (FEBVS – Fellow of the European Board of Vascular Surgery).
During carotid endarterectomy, arteries are cut open and the atherosclerotic plaque is removed. During femoropopliteal bypass, two ends of the vessel are attached to each other. In this workshop, different types of endarterectomies and vascular anastomoses are discussed and various surgical techniques are explained.
A large part of the programme is hands-on: participants perform an actual carotid endarterectomy and vascular anastomoses themselves. After this workshop, you will understand the idea of vascular anastomosis, suturing techniques and pitfalls.
